Acanthus

A Stylized leaf motif, one of the primary decorative elements of classical architecture. With its origins in Greece, it was adopted by Romans and transmitted into the general classical tradition. (www.archiseek.com)

Baluster

A turned, vase-shaped vertical post often seen used with tables.

Bergère

An upholstered chair, originating in France and adopted by Sweden, consisting of an exposed frame, closed arms, and loose seat cushion

Burled Veneer

Made from the tumescent growth of certain trees and valued for its unusaul but attractive grain.

Cabriole Leg

A stylized form of furniture leg in an elongated "S" shape that curves outward and then narrows downward in the same fashion as an animals hind leg.

Fluting

A decoration created by forming semicircular, parallel groves. Usually seen on legs of tables and chairs.

Girandole

An ornamental candlestick, usually as a pair, with several arms and lights.It appears to have been created during the second half of the 17th century.Typically ornate in design and made of a variety of materials including gilded bronze, silver and wood.

Reeding

A form of ornament created by convex, parallel carvings resembling thin reeds and derived from decoration used on classical architecture.
